Middleport Pottery - Photographed by Edward Rollitt

Built beside the Trent and Mersey Canal in 1888, Middleport Pottery has been Burleigh’s home since 1889. Its architecture was shaped by the work of the pottery, and the work continues within it.

Edward Rollitt’s photographs are a quiet study of this relationship between place and making. He observes the scale of the buildings and the intimate traces of the hand: worn timber, clay dust, delicate printed tissue, tools held and returned. Light reveals what time has left behind, and what each working day adds.
